“Hired Matt Hirsch at a distance to take on a traffic case with a missed mandatory court appearance (or two). Even as the case dragged on longer than anticipated (not the fault in any way of the lawyer), and indeed went a couple rounds, Mr. Hirsch remained engaged, positive, and proactive. I firmly believe he and his firm resolved my case with the best outcome for me. Would recommend Cohen & Hirsch for cases of my type without reservation, and his working for me at a fairly great distance, without my ever appearing back in state, deserves particular note”

“I found Andy Cohen via a google search and after our initial phone conversation I was happy to hire him. The circumstances that drove me to solicit an attorney were sensitive to say the least. He was kind, sympathetic and detailed which I appreciated very much. He kept me well informed throughout the hearing process and Andy always made sure to be available if I had any questions or concerns. I highly recommend Andy and his team to help you through what is likely a difficult process.”

“Seamless experience dealing with Andy and Jill. They are both very knowledgeable and will go to bat for you. I was referred to Cohen and Hirsch by a friend and will refer them to others myself. Truly great people who care and love what they do. One thing that stood out to me is that they will update you consistently without you having to reach out. I will continue to use them in the future and so should you.”

“Matt was a great treasure! Always kept calm and let me be the same. Looking at his fb feed, I was convinced he’s the right person for me. Helped get through a difficult situation. His fees were also comparable to the others given the amount of personal attention he paid to the case. Never had the trouble of dealing with the paralegals(as we all know what happens). He was always available on text. Great experience!!”

“Wow, what an unexpected experience. We have all heard the horror stories and the jokes about lawyers. Well, I've been fortunate not to have had reason to use a lawyer... until now. Or at least that is what I thought. I don't want to get into the details, but I had sent an inquiry into the firm through their website and Andy reached out to me. He was patient, professional and funny. He spent a good 15 to 20 minutes on the phone with me. Explained to me in detail what I could expect. And recommended that I don't actually need a lawyer for what I have to do. I can't express my sincere gratitude enough. In the event I ever do need a lawyer, I know exactly who I'm calling.”

Defending Accusations Of All Manner OfFederal Crimes

Federal crimes are prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office in United States District Courts in Atlanta, around Georgia and throughout the country. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is the investigative arm of the federal government and the agency responsible for federal criminal investigations resulting in criminal prosecutions in United States District Courts. When the force and resources of the federal government are focused on you, you need aggressive and experienced federal criminal defense attorneys on your side. Cohen & Hirsch, based in Atlanta, can help you defend yourself in complex, high-stakes investigations and court cases in DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb, Cherokee or Gwinnett county.

How Do I Know If I’m Being Prosecuted By The Feds?

You are being investigated and potentially prosecuted by the federal government if you are being investigated by the FBI instead of your local police agencies. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the United States Postal Service (USPS), The United States Marshalls Service, The United States Secret Service and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are examples of other federal agencies that may be targeting you for federal prosecution.

Federal law enforcement agencies will conduct investigations and prosecutions if criminal allegations involve one or more of the following:

  • The victim of the alleged crime is a federal official.
  • The alleged crime took place on a military base or in a national park.
  • The alleged crime took place across state lines. Crimes involving kidnapping or Internet child pornography are examples of crimes occurring across state lines.
  • The alleged criminal activity involves “interstate commerce”. Examples of crimes involving interstate commerce are using the USPS or an express mail service to send contraband or counterfeit items across state lines.

What Types Of Crimes Are Prosecuted At The Federal Level?

Generally speaking, there are seven major categories of federal crimes:

Fraud and theft, also known as “White Collar Crimes”.

Property crimes involving theft of property from the government by fraud, embezzlement, counterfeiting and bribery.

Sex offenses where conduct travels over state lines. Criminal sexual offenses over state lines can be proven by something as simple as an e-mail.

Child pornography – most often involving images of children being trafficked, sold, distributed or possessed via the Internet. The FBI uses expert agents and sophisticated software and tools to track images to your computer.

Firearms offenses – the most common being felons in possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking offense, possession of an unregistered or illegal firearm.

Crimes against a person such as kidnapping, murder, bank robbery when those crimes involve conduct across state lines, occur on federal property or involve federal officials.

Drug offenses when those offenses allege conduct through mail services or across state lines.

What Actions Should I Take If An FBI Agent Contacts Me?

Federal prosecutions often rely on highly technical and complicated evidence. If you have been contacted by an FBI agent you need an Atlanta federal criminal defense attorney on your side immediately. If you are the target of a federal investigation and the resources and powers of the federal government are focused on you, contact our firm. You have a better chance of avoiding arrest and a lengthy federal criminal prosecution when a skilled attorney can intervene on your behalf early in a federal investigation.
