A spokesperson for an historic fire station in Georgia said substantial property damage occurred during recent crimes. Deputies say someone broke into the old firehouse and stole many items. This particular fire station is known for being the first to house motorized trucks in the state and was built in 1914. Burglary charges have reportedly been filed.
Authorities say the burglar appears to have struck on two separate occasions, the first time breaking a front door to gain entry. A generator battery and projector screen were among items reportedly stolen. Other supposedly stolen goods include a fireman’s axe, a drum of nozzles and various brass parts from an old fire engine.
The wooden frame of the historic engine is said to have been severely damaged in the alleged burglary. Replacement costs for missing items is estimated at approximately $5,000. A 54-year-old man has been charged with two counts of second degree burglary for both incidents.
There do not appear to be any other suspects in the case. Facing burglary charges in Georgia can be quite a stressful experience.
