Police arrested a student from the University of Georgia after receiving a complaint that he had gone into the incorrect restroom on campus. Because of a previous incident, he is currently facing multiple felony charges, including eavesdropping. Both incidents involved the student being in the women’s bathroom rather than the men’s.
His more recent arrest followed him turning himself in after a warrant on a felony peeping Tom charge was issued. A teacher’s assistant apparently approached the business manager at UGA’s Department of Comparative Literature, complaining that a male student was in the women’s bathroom. When the manager entered the restroom, she said that the male exited a stall and appeared quite embarrassed. She then directed him to the location of the men’s restroom, but she said that he never actually went there.
The manager later described the male student to a UGA professor who identified him as a 22-year-old student in one of his classes. They notified campus police, who issued the warrant. At last update, he was still behind bars without bail, although it is possible that a judge will choose to set bail at some point in the future.
As compared to misdemeanors, felony charges typically carry much harsher penalties if a conviction is achieved. Defendants facing felonies are often well advised to be vigilant in their defense preparations, which typically include the careful review of all charges and evidence alongside guidance from their respective counsels.
