Most Americans know that, when the temperature outside rises, the temperature inside of a locked car can climb even higher. However, in such a time-constrained and stressful world, unfortunate accidents can occur. A Georgia father apparently made a fatal mistake on his way to work, and he now faces criminal charges for his child’s tragic death.
That mistake claimed by the 33-year-old father was failing to drop his son off at daycare before heading to work. He reported to his place of employment at about 9 a.m., and the temperature outside began to climb up to 88 degrees. Police report that the 22-month-old boy was left in the vehicle for roughly seven hours without air conditioning.
The man apparently noticed his son in the back of his vehicle on his drive home from work and pulled over. A witness reported seeing him administering CPR in a shopping center parking lot, but it was to no avail. Once at the scene, authorities pronounced the boy dead.
For a parent, there may be no greater tragedy than the loss of a child. On the criminal charges of cruelty to children and murder, this Georgia father has pleaded not guilty for what may have simply been a tragic accident. He is currently being held in a local jail without bond, although a hearing has been set. As court proceedings begin, he and his counsel will undoubtedly review both the charges he faces and the evidence prosecutors intend to use to support them in order to determine how to best proceed.
