An office that works with victims has reported an increase in domestic violence incidents and says that the economic downturn may have exacerbated stresses and tensions in some households. One report notes that people are not only harmed by domestic violence every day, but people can also be killed in a domestic violence situation.
Family violence and domestic abuse can include physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse or economic abuse. Serious consequences can result from domestic violence allegations and domestic violence charges. Those facing domestic violence accusations can suffer a damaged reputation.
