Any time there are accusations that people have committed drug offenses, they should each take it seriously. When drug charges include a charge of intent to distribute, then they each need to think about the strongest defense possible.
For five defendants near Atlanta, they must now contemplate those defenses to drug charges. The five were arrested in a bust at the Coosawattee River Resort, in the camper section. The drug charges included possession of Xanax and hydrocodone and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The investigation allegedly lasted for five months and is supposedly still ongoing, so it is possible that the five could face more charges.
Anyone in a similar situation to these defendants could face serious consequences. For that reason, you should seek help immediately in order to explore your options and to decide on the best defense. A proper defense, if successful, can be used to reduce charges or even have some thrown out entirely. In the case of a large-scale drug bust, especially in an open area like a resort, campground or a warehouse, possible defenses may include the police performing an improper search and seizure or that they lacked a search warrant to search the area. Another defense might be that the drugs found did not belong to any of the individual defendants. Finally, pleading guilty to a lesser charge may be to the defendant’s benefit in some cases, depending on the circumstances
Being charged with possession and intent to distribute are serious charges that should not be taken lightly. However, by building a strong defense, the accused may be able to minimize the consequences of a conviction or escape a conviction altogether.
