The federal Drug Enforcement Administration recently teamed up with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office to investigate and build a case against several individuals they think were involved in trafficking heroin — a charge that law enforcement can make based upon the weight of any substances that they find.
The DEA’s investigation came to a head this week when they conducted a raid that agents had planned for a period of time. During this raid, agents found at least 86 pounds of heroin, an amount that they will surely use to attempt to levy trafficking charges against those they believe they can tie to the drugs.
The amount of heroin that was seized would be worth approximately $5 million if sold on the streets. The heroin was found behind the drywall in a home. Also seized in the raid were two weapons, 4.4 pounds of crack crystal methamphetamine worth approximately $132,000 and $50,000 in U.S. currency.
A subsequent raid was conducted at a second home, but agents refused to provide extensive details on that raid as it remains an ongoing investigation. What was confirmed was that $2 million in U.S. currency was found at the second location.
Three men were also arrested in the DEA-run raid. These men were a 21-year-old, 32-year-old and a 36-year-old. While the identity of the two was not confirmed, it appears as though two of the men were Mexican nationals, which would mean that they could face further penalties such as deportation.
DEA agents said that the men were tied to a group that they had conducted a rain on nearly one year ago. In that raid, a total of 77 pounds of heroin was seized.
